Requirement: Provide course and/or real world experience that demonstrates, that you have senior-level competency for each of the entry-level standards established under the NRPA/AALR-General Outcome Categories by the Council of Accreditation (listed below in the box).
1. CONCEPTUAL FOUNDATIONS
Related to understanding the leisure service industry – values of leisure to various populations; social, psychological physiological, economic foundations of play, recreation, leisure; relation between leisure behavior and the natural environment; common definitions
RE-110 Introduction to Leisure and Recreation introduced me to the word leisure and showed me how differently it can be interpreted; and how everyones definition and view on leisure is slightly different. We focused on the difference between play, recreation, and sport; we called this the "Leisure Continuum". To put this in simple terms, and to define each of those three words this is what I would say.
Another topic that was touched on in RE-110 that is focused around "leisure" is the theory of FLOW, drawn out by Dr. Csikszentmihályi. He describes the mental state of flow as "being completely involved in an activity for its own sake (leisure)". Attached to the right is an image is the FLOW chart that he has created.
2. LEISURE SERVICES PROFESSION
Related to understanding: the development and history of the profession; current issues; the concept of a profession and professional organizations; ethical and professionalism in the profession; the importance of and resources for professional development
I would like to touch on RE-371 Protected Area Land Management, This class not only touched on ethics and what is protected vs non protected land, it also gave me the ability to do some personifications and learn about different influential people that helped create this profession. It showed me the history of many influential people and helped open my eyes to current issues that are out there regarding the profession. On another note, there are many different outdoor organizations that have different views on outdoor ethics and beliefs when it comes to preservation and conservation. All of that was learned through lectures from Dr. Scott Jordan in this class. Attached HERE, are in-depth notes taken in typed form from RE-371
The professional development seminars have also taught me and helped me prepare for me to dive deep into the "real world" of the outdoor professional. They have helped me create this webpage that I am showing you today, as well as prepare for me for internships, and to show me what is available out there to prepare me for when I leave Northern. Attached below are links to each of those seminar classes. I would like to use this site, and it's links to my resume as my showing of competency in this section.

RE-291 Professional Development Seminar II
RE-391 Professional Development Seminar III
3. LEISURE SERVICES DELIVERY SYSTEM
Understanding: how to use diverse resources; the roles and interrelationship of diverse providers (including specialties). Able to promote leisure within the system
There are three classes that really stick out when thinking of delivery. Those being,
RE 261 Leadership and Pedagogy in Leisure Services - Evidence (Activity)
RE 381 Interpretation I: Foundations and Guided Services - Evidence#1 (Interpretive Talk) Evidence#2 (Guided Walk & Tour) Evidence #3 (Personification)
RE 382 Interpretation II: Self-Guided Media - Evidence (Promotional Flyer)
Those three classes listed above gave the chance to showcase my delivery skills and allowed me to promote leisure within the system. Attached next to each of the four classes is evidence of me delivering programs and talks within the program. I learned to use many different resources and feel that I did a great job at delivering them.
4. PROGRAMMING STRATEGIES
Knowledge of the role and content of leisure programs and services; able to organize and conduct programs and services; able to facilitate a leisure lifestyle; able to use various leadership techniques and strategies; Understand and use leisure resources.
In RE-362 Program Design and Leisure Services, I was required to plan and implement a program with a group of other students from the class. My group and I decided to put on a "educational fun day" for students from North Star academy in Marquette, Michigan. The entire process thought me the necessary measures needed to meet my audiences needs and to properly implement a program. Attached HERE is the complete planning process and report that my group created. We called ourselves, The Polar Explorers! On another note, I am currently enrolled in RE-467 Evaluation/Research in Leisure Services, this class shows us as students the process needed in order to properly conduct a research study, and document it. My group and I are currently in the middle of this project and have yet to complete all of the paperwork. Attached HERE is what my group and I have up to this date.
5. ASSESSMENT, PLANNING/EVALUATION
Understanding of and ability to analyze programs, assess leisure needs, plan leisure services, design leisure services; knowledge and application of research and evaluation related to leisure services; able to apply computer and statistical techniques; able to plan and evaluate the extent to which goals for programs have been met.
In RE-362 Program Design and Leisure Services, I was required to not only volunteer for a program, but also participate in one as well. Doing so would give me a chance to get analyze and get an inside look on what goes on behind the scenes of planning and implementing a program, getting me prepared to do the same for my own. For my volunteer portion of this class, I decided to help out with the setting up of the UP-200, I remember the program being very unorganized but enjoyable to help out with. Attached HERE is my volunteer critique that I filled out. Along with volunteering I decided to participate in an implemented program during the semester. One of my favorite bands came to town last year and I was fortunate enough to head to Ore Dock Brewery to see them in action. They're called the Pine Travelers and I thoroughly enjoyed they're tunes like I always do. My participant reflection and critique can be found HERE.

We learned how to write proposals and organize a business plan in order to pitch it to someone. We had the entire semester to work on the creation of the business plan with a group and attached HERE is what my group and I came up with. Also attached HERE are all noted taken from RE-461, which helped me create the business plan that we did.
7. LEGISLATIVE AND LEGAL ASPECTS
Knowledge of legal foundations including legislation, policy formation; understand basic legal concepts; understand principles of risk management planning and participate in the development/implementation of a risk management plans
During the creation of our RE-362 program for North Star Academy my group and I were required to fill out and create a Risk Management plan. Our activity that we were putting on looks to be harmless from on paper and the chance for something to go wrong was minimal. However, in our field you better be safe then sorry as legal issues can kick you in the butt if you don't properly take care of them. With that being said, attached HERE is the risk management plan the we came up with.

- Play has no rules and is generally non-competitive.
- Recreation is an activity done for enjoyment when one is not working.
- Sports have clear goals and known tactics which will achieve them.
