Entry Paper - Fall 2014
Date: October 2014 Major: Outdoor Recreation Leadership Management Semester & Year Major Was Declared: Spring 2014 Anticipated Graduation Date: Fall 2017 1. What do you see as your current strengths as an ORLM major? A few of my current strengths as an ORLM major are that I have great motivational and leadership skills, as well as a passion for the natural outdoors. Past experience as a camp counselor and a trip leader has helped me out tremendously with the leadership aspect. 2. What do you see as your current challenges (weakness) as an ORLM major? A current weakness that I have is the lack of technical skills in an outdoor setting. Im itching to enroll in the outdoor skills courses where I’ll be able to learn technical skills in a hands on educational environment. 3. In what ORLM areas would you most like to improve? I would like to improve my technical skills and my teaching skills. I want to become the best teacher that I can be. Outdoor Skills Examples:
Human Skills Example: Camp counselor for 13, 14, 15 & 16 year old children where I was a trip leader and mentor. I had to interact with co-staff and participate in meetings, giving my input when needed. Educational Skills Example: I am currently in a class (Education in an Outdoor Setting); it is prepping me to become a better educator in the outdoors with the use of lesson plans. I do not have a problem with standing in front of a large group of people. I do however think I could use some teaching on technical skills so I can be able to educate others in that field. |
